You are motivated to work out, but for some reason, you need your gym to be very near your home. And you already have some extra space you can turn into a gym for your needs only, either an attic or a basement, or you can use some spare space in the garage.
Either the reason is that getting to the gym is consuming much time, or you would rather escape from a crowded gym. Therefore, your idea of having a small working out space for yourself only, in your home, is something we absolutely support. As you do not lack motivation, you only need a couple of creative ideas on how to turn your not-so-big space into a functional gym and on a budget if possible.
Although it is a wonderful idea, it is not a very easy job to make a nice little functional space for your workouts, so we can offer some tips on how to do it right. Your little home gym ought to be the place where you will rest your soul while you exercise. Of course, you should get a maximum workout, and still, the aesthetic of the house should not be ruined.
Pick the Right Spot for Your Little Gym
You can use your bedroom for your workout, and it is already a nice and completely organized space. But, if you decide on some space in the attic, you will probably have to make some changes to the space. Attics are often big spaces, and you will have to organize a smaller part of them for your gym. You will need some electricity, at least for the music and lighting, or for the treadmill. You will also need heating for cold winter days and probably some insulation to keep it warm.
To prevent radiant heat loss in cold weather, you can use foil roll insulation because it reflects heat back and keeps the space warmer. It will also be very good in the summer to prevent heat. Talking about the equipment, you can put anything you like, a treadmill, spin bike, mats, weight training tools, and a stability ball. And you will also need some racks to organize them nicely.
If you choose the basement for exercising, it is very similar to the attic when talking about lots of space, but it is different when talking about heating. In the winter, it is easier to warm up the space, and in the summer, it will be easier to keep it cool. And again, you will not need that much space for your little home gym, plus it will be easier to warm it up or cool down as needed. You can, again, organize a smaller space for your gym, and again you can add some insulation to keep it warm or cool, depending on the weather and time of the year. You can put in there some pieces of cardio equipment, the same as in the attic.
Pick the Equipment
There is no need for expensive equipment when making your own little home gym. And there is no need for too many pieces. A treadmill or a spin bike for some cardio, a nice yoga mat, a stability ball or a medicine ball, and a foam roller will be just fine. Add to it some weight training tools, like dumbbells, exercise 15 minutes on each, and that is your needed daily dose of exercise.
Benefits of Having a Home Gym
Some people do not find it very attractive to push their way through a crowded gym, where they are not very sure how clean everything is. For some, just the thought of using the same equipment others did is enough to put them off entirely. If this applies to you as well, the best solution for you is to organize your own little gym where you can feel clean, safe, and comfy.
You can choose your own music and your own set of exercises that are the most convenient for you. And you can choose the time that suits you best. You can decide on a very affordable home gym, which depends on the kind of exercise you prefer. A treadmill or a spin bike does not have to be expensive, and the more important thing is to exercise daily than to have expensive equipment.
And if you prefer yoga or pilates for stretching and working particular groups of muscles, it is even easier to decide about a mat and a mirror. And of course, don’t forget the music, which is a very important part of your relaxing exercise, to give you the rhythm. You can use your phone for that because, hey, it is your home, your gym, and your music.
And after the exercise in your own home gym, you can go straight to your own bathroom and shower, and after that, to your favorite bathrobe. Life’s good!
